Ever since the first major computers were brought into function in the 1950's the interest and use has expanded rapidly, whilst the technolgy has also been developed at an incredibly fast rate. During the 1980's computers were being seen in homes, the advent of the personal computer (PC) and the beginning of the widespread need for computer literacy. Since then the technology has come a very long way and whilst much of the hardware has become more complex in certain ways it is often saught for software to be user friendly and simple to navigate, making the entry level for using the technology as low as possible.

With computer technology so common and widespread lacking computer literacy can severely inpinge upon your options professionally, educationally, as well as in everday life.

Computers are now a major part of modern society and will continue to be so. Thus it is increasingly necessary for one to posess at least a rudimentary and up-to-date knowledge of computer programmes and technology.
